Meet Enid Harris of Enid Harris Interior Design in West Los Angeles
by VoyageLA Staff | August 21, 2018
Today we’d like to introduce you to Enid Harris.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a costume designer in the film industry for 25 years and had many private clients that I dressed for Red Carpet, editorial and their private wardrobes. One of them asked me to design a very large Spanish house in Brentwood.
At that time, I had taken interior design classes at UCLA but had helped only a handful of friends decorate and remodel much smaller projects. The Brentwood home was daunting but an incredible challenge and one that I couldn’t pass up. Astonishingly, it came out really well! That was in 2004; I’ve never stopped working and she is still my client.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, I’ve had really good experiences but there have been a few hiccups.
Like the time a custom white linen bed wasn’t properly wrapped for delivery and it arrived with smudge marks. What I’ve learned over the years is to pay attention to every little detail, so nothing falls through the cracks. It’s true: it’s ALL in the details!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Enid Harris Interior Design story. Tell us more about the business.
I love doing kitchens and bathrooms, but I would not say it’s my specialty because I love creating the whole environment. My background as a costume designer informs my love of textiles. Interior design and costume design are very much alike in that both entail taste, scale and budget.
I am grateful that all my business has come from referrals. Perhaps this means my clients appreciate my work and trust me enough as a designer to recommend me.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
A lot of people deserve credit here but unfortunately, I would be giving out my best resources! You know who you are, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You always make me look better.
